| Welcome
to stunning Bream Bay and Mangawhai, with spectacular white sand
beaches, tranquil estuaries and lush native forests.
The diversity of leisure activities available
here is remarkable. The coast beckons visitors to enjoy its beaches
and warmth, while inland, bush, waterfalls and caves await discovery.
Take a horse trek through the forest or along the beach, or join
the fun at the all weather racecourse at Ruakaka, uniquely positioned
beside the beach.
Enjoy the vistas of the Brynderwyn Hills or Mangawhai Cliffs
walkways or a round of golf at the courses
in Waipu or Mangawhai. Charter boats will please fishers with
their catches from the coast and off shore islands, or you can
swim with the dolphins or watch the whales in these beautiful
waters.
History permeates the township of Waipu,
where a migration of Nova Scotians settled in the 1850's. The
Waipu Heritage Centre recreates this history, along with the Caledonian
Highland Games, which attract contestants and visitors worldwide
and are celebrated annually on January 1st.
The townships of Mangawhai and Waipu are home to many talented
artists. You can view their works in the
galleries and craft shops,
and enjoy the local markets and fairs. Or just unwind in one of
the trendy cafes.
Accomodation abounds, from basic beach
front cabins to 5 star accommodation, luxury lodges, motels, bed
and breakfasts, private cottages, coastal camping and caravan
parks and coastal backpacker budget accommodation.
About the only thing you can't do here is snow ski, but if you're
that badly lost the friendly locals will be sure to point you
in the right direction! |
