Founded early in 2005, Bogwood Productions has quickly established a reputation for innovation.

Its outdoor productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Much Ado About Nothing, in 2006 and 2007 respectively, played to audiences throughout the Kaipara and Whangarei districts. Its 2007 world premiere of Neil Troost’s play Penalties, Pints and Pirouettes sold out an extended season in Waipu’s Coronation Hall and attracted a new audience to theatre in Northland.

In addition, Bogwood has developed , in cooperation with restaurants in Waipu and Mangawhai, a popular format for delivering drama alongside dining. In 2006 Lost in Space ,  in 2007 Lost for Words and early in 2008 The Private War of Corporal Cooper played to full and enthusiastic houses.

Romeo and Juliet, directed by Kelly Johnson, represents Bogwood’s most ambitious project yet. Moving Shakespeare indoors to Whangarei’s Forum North, Bogwood has succeeded in attracting a strong cast of professional and amateur actors, as well as some talented high school student performers.

Johnson will be remembered by many as the character Blondini in the iconic 80s movie Goodbye Pork Pie. In Romeo and Juliet he is joined by Jan Fisher ( Outrageous Fortune ) as Juliet’s Nurse, Robert Harte ( Xena and My House My Castle )  as the Prince , Des Wallace as Paris, Brian Satterfield as Mercutio , Jarrod Tuck as Capulet, Maria Satterfield as Lady Capulet and Nick Green as the Friar.

Eddie Monk-Fromont  ( Kamo High School ) and Nina Sanson ( Whangarei Girls High School ) play the plum lead roles and the production will be costumed by Alison Turner, of AlterEgo Costume Hire in Whangarei , who has costumed all of Bogwood’s previous productions.

Romeo and Juliet promises to be a fresh and exciting production which will both challenge and delight audiences. It opens on Tuesday 24th June and plays for seven performances. Tickets, available through Ticketek, are $28 and $18.
